33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop CS4. Digital Abstract. After Harold Camping's notorious prediction of the end, and after my great amusement over the whole ordeal, I started thinking about the forms of evil people perceive. It occurred to me that for some, this man might represent evil. How many people lost (gave up?) all their money, quit their jobs, alienated friends and family, killed pets? How many considered suicide? How many actually did? Does that constitute evil, even if the man believed what he was telling the world? I don't know. What is certain is that our words have power, with real, tangible effects on society. Even a madman (perhaps, especially a madman) can have a dramatically negative impact on the lives of millions. So, while we all have a nice chuckle over this man's misguided/delusional rantings, it is, I think, wise to remember that we should follow no leader without question.
