58"x36" @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator CS4; digital abstract illustration. Feeling a bit depressed about what has been happening in Japan. I listen to the reports, from the damage caused by the earthquake, to the tsunami, to the critical situation in the nuclear plants. This piece started out completely unrelated. But, as I listened to one piece of bad news after another, this is what evolved. The wave , which started as a full panel spiral, struck me as being similar to "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa). Once my mind made that association, I couldn't see anything else. So, I rotated the piece and worked with it.
