Why Reinvent The Wheel?

I think I have found a blog solution that I like. Until now, I had been making posts to my website via a "home grown" solution (i.e.: I wrote the blog program myself). Problem is, once I made a post, I would then have to go and repost the same information to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. It was a lot of extra work and I usually skipped Facebook and Twitter - sometimes, you just want to be finished for the day and nothing else matters. After all, I have a personal goal to become as lazy as humanly possible. Laughing

Over the past year, I have been looking at other content management systems. Nothing felt right. Nothing, that is, until I found Tumblr. It's easy to learn how to use, easy to integrate into my existing website. And, as an added bonus, it will automatically repost to my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

For comments, I am implementing Disqus, which provides complete control over all comments on my items, and easy login for my visitors using a variety of services, including Facebook Connect.

It is true, the posts and comments rely on third parties. In other words, if Tumblr goes down, then the related pages on my site will too. That is an issue I'll have to watch and evaluate over the following weeks.

As of the time of this post, the home page of my site (either http://mattlindley.info or http://comfounded.com) makes use of this new system. Hopefully, over the weekend, I can integrate the Disqus comment system into my portfolio pages.

Here's to what is mounting up to be a spectacular weekend. Hope yours will be a great one too!
