Ok, it's a bit early for Halloween. I don't care. This is my favorite holiday. I can do without all the rest. I love this time of year. Deal with it.
I know I've been lax in updating these posts - aren't I always? But, that does not mean that I haven't been a busy little bee. I have been working on a new theme - not a series, exactly... just a few paintings with similar elements. The two most recent pieces are definitely in the mood of the season.
Cthulu Dreams is an abstract I did with H. P. Lovecraft in mind. The background was inspired by a bar mitzvah poster I did for a client (if I can get permission to post it, I will). The foreground tentacles is an expansion of an element I started playing with a couple of weeks ago.
If you do not know what/who Cthulu is, and if you enjoy horror stories, then I recommend you go get some Lovecraft books. They are dark, moody, with a sense of doom and hopelessness. His works have influenced many modern horror writers and movies. Most of the stories are pretty short, so you don't have to fret over losing too much time from your computers and smart phones.
Triffid is a small tribute to Invasion of the Triffids, a 1962 horror flick starring Howard Keel and Nicole Maurey. It's a real classic horror film and well worth adding to your collection.
These two pieces are in the spirit of Halloween (in my mind, anyway). Next weekend, time permitting, of course, I will try to do something more disturbing and less abstract. Unless I change my mind... which I am oft prone to do....
