33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop. Have I mentioned how much I love horror stories? I can't say that it's my favorite genre; but, it's in my top two. Books and movies. Why? Hard to say. Maybe because it was my go-to genre as a child, whenever I was home sick. Maybe it's because my parents took me to see (some) horror movies at a young age (Alien, most notably). I'm not sure why I have such a strong affinity. I love horror like most people love chocolate. I crave it.

78in x 50in @ 300 ppi; Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Decided to work with another photo I took of this view in New York. This time, it's pure photo manipulation. I like the muted colors in this shot. Tons of processing here. I also decided to go a bit larger. Why? Well, though this is a shot of New York, I'm from Texas. We do things bigger in Texas. (c:

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop. This is from a photo I took in New York back in January 2008.I love this shot of the M Hotel - so much that I keep returning to it every so often. I used a combination of photo manipulation and drawing to achieve this effect. Hope you like it!

I was playing around with an idea for a different piece. I generated a basic image of reflective cubes, with some rising up into a light source, when I thought that this image was pretty cool on its own. Look into the reflections and see what's behind you (above you) - other shapes rising into the light. But, what are these things?

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Blender 3D, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop CS5. Wow! This one took me a while. Due to limitations of the computer I use, I had to render the 3D elements in pieces. I had to render approximately 375 scenes to get all the 3D forms. Then I reassebled them all into Photoshop. The text layout was done in InDesign, with the help of a custom script I wrote (to gradually reduce the size of the text, given specified starting and ending font sizes). The poem came after I had designed the basic scene in Blender. I have loved the combination of text and art for a long time; but, I haven't done any combinations of text and art in a long time. Feels good to have this one finished. Been working on it for around a week.

52in x 33in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Blender 3D, Adobe Photoshop;I cannot really say where this came from. It began as another male form with an abstract design (a kind of zebra pattern) applied to his skin. I was having trouble getting the texture map aligned on the different parts of his body, so I pulled it all into Blender (I find that mapping textures like this is easier in blender). Then I got it into my head that he looked like he was emerging from something... liquid, fabric... not certain. Then I reapplied the texture to the entire form and it started to take shape. I like the overall feel. He seems to be in the process of becoming something, or being born - so to speak. Thus the title. I'm really liking the empty space around him. I had a bit of that in my last piece and a few older pieces. Not every design needs to have every inch filled with something. Sometimes, the emptiness helps tell the story... makes what's there a little more important.

24in x 36in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Adobe Photoshop;Of all the things to fear in this great wide world, it may be the only thing worthy of your fear is the little monster you have hiding in the dark corners of your own mind. You may think you have outgrown or banished it; but, it's still there. Waiting. Watching.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Created a simple, twisted square shape in illustrator. Imported it into Photoshop and began applying duplicating transformations. There is something hypnotic about repeating patterns that I find appealing... almost soothing. Only used four colors in this piece. Blending modes altered them to produce a broader range of colors as shapes and groups of shapes (and groups of those groups) overlap.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Photoshop. Another fractal type of image. Started as a random shape, drawn with the pen tool and with a simple gradient applied. Then I began performing duplicating transitions until I got a simple feathery shape. Merged that into a smart object, then repeated the process of duplicating transformations on the smart object (after rasterizing it - I cant seem to get the duplicating transformations to work properly on a smart object). What do you think? I think it looks like a plume of feathers.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Adobe Photoshop CS5. I love fractals... both for the mathematics and for the graphic representations. I wanted to do something that would give the impression of a fractal, while using an unorthodox subject. Looking closely, this is not a perfectly repeating pattern. However, I think it still conveys the nature of a fractal.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Back to my roots, this time. Not sure why I love abstracts so much, or repeating patterns, for that matter. I just do. This began as a lazy Sunday, messing around, having no specific goal in mind, project. The more I progressed, the more I liked the colors and patterns I was getting. To me, it started resembling city lights, out of focus - like a bokeh effect.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Adobe Photoshop CS5. This took a lot of trial and error in Daz Studio to get the dot pattern just right. I wanted a human figure, but not in a traditional sense. I wanted the form to be incomplete, allowing the viewers' minds to fill in the form from a loose, and slightly random, pattern of dots. Then, in photoshop, after a number of blending methods, I was finally able to get the colors and intensity the way I wanted. I particularly like the subtle pixellation effect that appears in the background colors.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Adobe Photoshop CS5. I thought I would try something a little different. I was going for a fairly somber - morbid, even - scene, while still trying to convey a sense of tenderness. I like the juxtaposition of the emaciated, corpse-like figures in what could be interpreted as a tender moment.

65in x 65in @ 300ppi; Daz Studio, Adobe Photoshop. I did this for IllustrationFridays.com - this weeks challenge was "disguise." I'm particularly happy with this piece, as it actually turned out very close to the way I envisioned it - not something that happens often enough.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. I created a rather large number of vector paths in Illustrator, then imported them into photoshop for more work. Along the way, it started looking a bit like hair. The colors made me think of the old movie "Hair." Hmmm... maybe I should actually watch it?
