Flowers are not normally my preferred subject. That said, while playing around, I ended up with an image that looked an awful lot like a flower... and I actually liked it....

Going a lot more illustrative and narrative this go 'round. And, yet, I still wanted enough ambiguity so that each person can derive a different story. So, how did I do? Tell me what you think it's about.

A lot of things going on here; so, I'll leave the interpretation up to you. I built the two cityscapes in Blender. In Photoshop, I added steam from the buildings' roof-top units and fog, along with some other hand work to fix things that were bugging me. Then applied a number of filters to degrade the scene to a point where I was happy with it.

Made using the cycles engine and nodes in Blender, this piece ended up a bit off of where I started. It just grew organically into this (it actually started with me just playing around, seeing what I special effects I could pull off with nodes).

A different kind of piece for me, I wanted to try my hand (heh) at a fantasy scene. The hands are actually my own - photographed on my iPhone, then converted to vector silhouettes in Adobe Illustrator, then imported into Blender, where I extruded and textured them – I used a procedural texture, not image based. While the stone texture came out well, the 3D software created edges that were way too clean and sharp for the texture and the scene, so I came back into Photoshop, after rendering, and roughed things up a bit. I had to do the same thing to the hair on the man and the child.

I really didn't intend for this to be such a dark piece. Oh, well.

I have no idea what sparked this. I just let my imagination go today. A little blending of man and machine. Now that I look at it, taking a step back, it seems more like the blending of zombie and machine. I played around with blending a few techniques - some painting and some digital watercolor effects. Lots of texture, too. Maybe a little too much texture.

A government with hands full of corporate money cannot hold up the scales of justice, cannot use pens to write laws and cannot lift the people out of poverty and ignorance. Governments with corporate investors do not invest in their people.

Bits and pieces of Forbidden Planet (IMDb) occasionally surface in my work. I don't think this is the first time and I am certain it will not be the last. If you've never seen it, and you like science fiction (even a little), go rent it. Buy it, if you can. You won't be disappointed.

Thinking a bit about how people react to being oppressed and have their rights subverted. To me, the logical reaction is to fight back. What fascinates (and frightens) me is how so many people are drawn to their oppressors. People seem to revere the very leaders and institutions that subjugate them. Odd. Disturbing. Sad.
