36in x 58in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop; I've never seen a plant as impressive as the bamboo trees in Jamaica. This isn't the first piece I've done on them. I'm sure it will not be the last.

36in x 58in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop; It's a male palm tree. How can you tell? You can clearly see his coconuts! Ha! Ok, it is late as i write this. See how funny you are when you're wiped out. Sheesh! With fronds like you, who needs enemas? HA! See what I did there? Fronds? Get it? Oh all right. Fine. Be that way.

78in x 50in @ 300 ppi; Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Decided to work with another photo I took of this view in New York. This time, it's pure photo manipulation. I like the muted colors in this shot. Tons of processing here. I also decided to go a bit larger. Why? Well, though this is a shot of New York, I'm from Texas. We do things bigger in Texas. (c:

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. Back to my roots, this time. Not sure why I love abstracts so much, or repeating patterns, for that matter. I just do. This began as a lazy Sunday, messing around, having no specific goal in mind, project. The more I progressed, the more I liked the colors and patterns I was getting. To me, it started resembling city lights, out of focus - like a bokeh effect.

33in x 52in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop. I created a rather large number of vector paths in Illustrator, then imported them into photoshop for more work. Along the way, it started looking a bit like hair. The colors made me think of the old movie "Hair." Hmmm... maybe I should actually watch it?

52in x 33in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator CS4; digital illustration. This one is for this weekend's http://illustrationfriday.com challenge. The topic is "lesson." I thought I would stretch my legs, so to speak, and try something new. So, I gave an outright illustration a try. The topic made me think of being in a schoolroom and having to write out things on a chalkboard. I couldn't decide what the lesson should be, so I made it a compilation of things we try to teach children (in theory, anyway). This kind of illustration is not something I normally do, so I'm very interested in feedback.

36in x 58in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator CS4; digital abstract/portrait. This time, I chose Mother Teresa. Two reasons: first, she has a familiar face (which makes the whole process much easier for me) and, second, she had an interesting face. Lots of wrinkles made for a nice challenge and texture.

36in x 58in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator CS4; digital abstract painting. Another piece inspired by illustrationfriday.com. This week's topic was "Cultivate." I'm not sure this really expresses that topic, but it is where I started. Working on this piece, I discovered a number of brush libraries that come with Illustrator. This set, specifically, is a watercolor set of brushes. This was fun. I'm thinking of tropical rainforests... perhaps a place between steep cliffs, maybe a valley, undiscovered and unspoiled, where vegetation spreads like wildfire.

58in x 36in @ 300ppi; Adobe Illustrator CS4; digital abstract illustration. Feeling a bit depressed about what has been happening in Japan. I listen to the reports, from the damage caused by the earthquake, to the tsunami, to the critical situation in the nuclear plants. This piece started out completely unrelated. But, as I listened to one piece of bad news after another, this is what evolved. The wave , which started as a full panel spiral, struck me as being similar to "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa). Once my mind made that association, I couldn't see anything else. So, I rotated the piece and worked with it.
