And now for something completely different...

Work has been eating my days. Not fun work, either; but, real world, in your face, not much to enjoy about it, work. So, the opportunities to create paintings for the pure pleasure of it all are rare. However, I have managed, on my weekends, to eek out a few new pieces.
Maelstrom
maelstrom is a slight tangent from my norm - in that it has a lot more symmetry than I normally like. It's had a reasonably positive reception. I hope you like it! Click the thumbnail to go to it's page.
Untitled Abstract 07/11/2010
Untitled Abstract 07/11/2010 is more of my regular style. It's a hot, chaotic mess of color and lines.
garden of souls
garden of souls comes a little closer to expressing something more than a simple abstract. Can you make out what the subject really is?
the ascension of man, part 1
the ascension of man, part 1 is more of a story piece. The text is an approximation of popular search words, taken from about 12,000 search phrases. My research is not terribly scientific and some errors are a guarantee.
I do feel, however, that it is a fair representation of the topics commonly searched for (pardon my awful grammar).
Not only did I have fun working on this one, but it seems to strike a chord with a number of people. So, look for more in this series down the road.

Anyway, hope you like them!
Check ya next time!

Hot Damn!

I found a bit of good news today! Another one of my designs has made it through the voting process at Rogue Monk! It's my Pheonix design.
What's more, it appears that both designs have already started selling! Woohoo! Yay me! It doesn't look like this is going to make me rich any time soon. Ok, let's be honest. It's not likely to even pay any bills. Right now, I'm not totally sure I could even buy a happy meal with my earnings. Still, it is a start. Who knows what the future will bring?
Happy 4th of July!

Good Morning!

Shorah, peeps!
First, I apologize for my rather long absence. I've been putting out client fires and knuckling down on some other client work. Busy, busy.
Today, I logged into RogueMonkWorkshop.com to find that my Cherry Blossoms shirt is now available for sale! It's $23 (as of the time of this post) and they are offering free shipping on orders over $50. What's more, they say that, when you sign up for the first time, if you will enter my ID - MattLindley - as the referral source, you will get a free shirt on your first purchase. Not too chablis, if you ask me.
[updated 11:10am] Almost forgot! One of my Flickr photos was chosed for the Schmap's NY Times Square attraction. It is not one I would have expected to gain any attention - it was taken with an *old* digital cam at 3.2 megapixels... not exactly a high quality camera, by today's standards. Even so, the photo DID get noticed and they asked my permission to use it in their site. Why not? It's awfully nice to be noticed! Check them out at: http://www.schmap.com/newyork/toppicks_attractions/p=5412/i=5412_130.jpg
My photo can be seen in the upper right of the page, in the detail column for Times Square.
Later, tatertots!

No Larger!
06/02/2010 05:38 pm
I recently posted my largest painting to date - 96"x144" @ 240ppi.
At this size, every brush stroke took an eternity and I did manage to crash Photoshop once. As much as I would like to continue going larger, I think I'll have to hold off until I can get a faster computer. For now, I'll focus more on content. I would rather create more interesting paintings than gigantic, but otherwise boring, works.
In that line of thinking, I have loaded two more pieces to my abstracts collection. Be sure to check them out!
My Cherry Blossoms design has not yet posted for sale on Rogue Monk's website. I'm keeping an eye on it and will let you all know as soon as I see that it's been posted. Also, there's still no word as to whether my Phoenix design earned enough votes. Cross your fingers!
Happy Hump-Day!

I can't believe it! I went larger and my computer didn't melt! Check out my latest piece, "golden serpent." It's 72"x108" at 240ppi, and 3.45GB in size.
How big should I go next?? I'll have to give the composition some thought, first.
Later, peeps!

Happy Memorial Weekend!
05/28/2010 02:38 pm
I hope you all have a pleasant *and safe* Memorial Day. I'll be assisting in a wedding. What fun! Not. :-P
I have a bunch of updates to tell you about. I have added a new abstract image. I'm excited about this piece, because it is the largest I've created in Photoshop. I am in an ongoing experiment to see how large of a painting I can create in Photoshop before I hit whatever limit is dictated by it and my computer's RAM.
In honor of Memorial Day, I would like to share with you all a special piece that I finished earlier this year. It is a photo of Co 15 2nd ARMD Div: Replacement Center, Ft Benning, GA Mar 1941. These troops served under General Patton in World War 2. I was able to scan and work on this panoramic because a friend, Mr. Jack Barnes, allowed me to scan this photo - which he has been keeping safe ever since 1941. Yeah, I know. Jack is actually in the photo, follow the link for more info and to find him in it. Thank you Jack and to all who have ever served in any branch of the military.
I also have loaded a couple of new categories in my collections. These are more about posting items for my resume. Client Work is where I will show off items that I have created for my clients (stay tuned for some chocolate items I've designed).
Photo Retouching is where I will show off examples of what I can do (and have done) to photos. These are not listed in Client Work, because these items are either show pieces or were pet projects. In other words, nobody paid me to do these.
That's all for now. Have a great weekend!
